Program: The purpose of this grant program is to provide prevention support, training and
resources to assist organizations and individuals to develop suicide prevention programs,
interventions and policies, and to establish public and private partnerships including the
establishment and implementation of the National Action Alliance as a major support for
the advancement of the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (NSSP).
Award: 1 award at $4.47 million per year for 5 years

National Technical Assistance Center for Child and
Adolescent Mental Health Cooperative Agreement (NTAC)

Program: The purpose of this program is to serve as a resource and training center to
increase the effectiveness of mental health services for children, adolescents and young
adults and their families in States, counties, Tribes and Territories. The NTAC will provide
technical assistance on systems of care development, implementation, sustainability and
related policy issues to current and previously funded grantees of the Comprehensive
Community Mental Health Services for Children and Their Families Program, also known
as the Children’s Mental Health Initiative (CMHI). The NTAC will also provide technical
assistance to grantees in the State/Community Partnerships to Integrate Services for
Youth and Young Adults 16-25 with Serious Mental Health Conditions and Their Families
Program (Healthy Transitions Initiative).

Program: This program provides training and education to agencies responsible for
preventing, investigating, or responding to sexual assault of offenders under correctional
supervision. Assistance can range from delivery of information about PREA to more
complex organizational reviews, assessments and accompanying recommendations.

The Education Dept. designs a survey that will follow and record the experiences of a sample of new school teachers.

According to an Aug. 18 Federal Register notice, the New Teacher Longitudinal Survey will follow a sample of public school teachers who were in their first year of teaching in 2007-08. These teachers were first interviewed as part of the 2007-08 Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS) and were also part of the 2008-09 Teacher Follow-up Survey.

They will be contacted again in 2010 as part of a second follow-up. Following this small subset of the SASS sample for at least a decade will provide much needed data on teachers' careers, attrition, and mobility.
